Connect Past & Present
Connecting the People of the Past with the People of the Present
The National Trust for Historical Preservation’s definition of Heritage Tourism is “traveling to experience the places and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past and present.”
Tourism is an important piece of a community’s economic pie providing ways to prosper while holding on to the characteristics that make each community special. An area that develops its heritage tourism creates new opportunities for tourists to gain an understanding and appreciation of an unfamiliar place, people or time. It also enhances community pride and love for their home. Well-interpreted sites teach visitors their importance, and by extension, the importance of preserving other such sites elsewhere.
Heritage provides us with a sense of place, a connectedness to that place, to the land, traditions, customs and family. Tell us how many heritage sites you have visited in the last year by taking the poll to the right.
