Other Uses of the Flume
Because the Hanging Flume only ran the hydraulic mining operations for a few years, it was repurposed for many things. It was used to irrigate fields below the placer claims for a few years. The water diverted by the Hanging Flume, helped develop the Club Ranch (1891) where cattle and products from their orchards, gardens, and hayfields were sold to many who lived in the town of Uravan.
Eventually, people stopped using the Hanging Flume and the lumber was salvaged for building homes, cabins, mine props and other projects in the area. The parts of the Hanging Flume that still cling to the canyon walls today were not salvaged because they were inaccessible.
